Producer Association Forum
Have producer associations lost their way?
From about 1980 through 1990, ACORD, producer associations, and user groups
provided education and informed leadership on agency technology issues. Since
then, most industry efforts seem beside the point, hidebound, politically
motivated, or unrealistic. Groups that should both represent and lead agents
— and work toward the common good of the system as a whole — seem
to have lost their way. Agents deserve better.
- Have the producer organizations lost membership because they've become
less useful to the agents they presumably represent?
- Is ACORD really doing something useful or just a good job of self-promotion?
- Are user groups dupes of the vendors whose systems they use?
- Do organizations like ACT and AUGIE really have a purpose, or are they
excuses for members to travel to meetings at resorts?
- Has IVANS outlived its usefulness — now that we're in the middle
of the Internet age?
